Relationship Therapy
Consultation Call for Relationship Counseling
The first step in the process is scheduling a free 15-minute phone consultation. Both partners are strongly encouraged to be available for the call so we can briefly connect together.
During this consultation, each partner will have an opportunity to share their perspective on what brings them to couples counseling and what they hope to gain from the process. I will also provide information about my background and the type of therapy I offer so you can make informed decisions about your care.
We will also discuss next steps, including scheduling availability and how to prepare for your first couples session.
If for some reason we aren't able to work together, I would be more than happy to provide you with additional referrals.
Relationship Intake Appointment
Whether you feel excited or a little nervous about your first appointment, I will do my best to make the experience as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Here are a few things to know before your first couples session:
Each partner will receive intake forms through a secure client portal. Both individuals are required to complete their forms prior to our first appointment, and both partners will attend the first session together.
On the day of your appointment, you will check in using a simple electronic system that lets me know you have arrived. You are welcome to relax in the waiting area and enjoy tea or coffee until I come out to meet you at our scheduled time.
During the session, we will review the intake information you provided, begin building a therapeutic relationship, and discuss your goals for couples counseling along with recommendations for future sessions.
Ongoing Appointments for Relationships
After your couples intake session, each partner will schedule one individual session with me. This is a common practice in couples counseling and an important part of the therapeutic process. These individual sessions allow me to better understand each partner’s personal background and ensure that the therapy process is safe, supportive, and beneficial for both individuals and the relationship.
Once both individual sessions have been completed, we will resume meeting together for joint sessions. During this time, we will work to better understand the patterns and cycles within your relationship, foster meaningful emotional experiences, and strengthen the emotional connection and secure bond between you and your partner.
When the time feels right, we will begin discussing the transition out of counseling, reflecting on the progress you have made and celebrating the growth and work you have accomplished together.
